National Champs!

I know none of you watched this, but the Oregon State Beavers have just won the College World Series "back home in Omaha." This accomplishment for the Beavers will be truly monumental as it is their first national championship since womens cross country in 1961!The winning pitcher was Newberg's own Dallas Buck (below right) , who led NHS to the state title in 2003, and this year was drafted in the 3rd round of the draft to the Arizona Diamondbacks.Other Newberg connections include Derek Englekee and Pat Casey, who left GFU to coach at OSU.The beaver's pitching staff was dominant, led through gutsy performances by Jonah Nickerson (pitching on 2 days rest), and Kevin Gunderson, and even though he worked 5 innings just the day before, he finished up the game, recording the save, which gave him the most saves in the nation with 20. "We're going to live it up," Gunderson said, "until we can't live it up no more."

Numa Numa

Okay, it's been a week since the last post, so I feel it is my duty as a blog member to keep it alive. I was bored the other day, and I got a strange idea. I assume that everyone that visits here has heard the song "Numa Numa", since Aaron posted a video of some fat guy lip-syncing to it (that was funny, I could see myself in the guy). So on that boring day, I took that song and I did some strange tweaks to it. Nothing truly spectacular, just entertaining. And since a video of3 that song has appeared on the blog, I figured I might as well post these "remixes" at the following url:

Enjoy.

Aaron, are you out there?

I know there haven't been many quality posts lately to draw him out, but it seems that other than a title change our beloved Aaron has vacated the blog. Word on the street says he's working like a dog at Astor House (40 hours a week!). I shouldn't say anything cause I'm sure not working and he's probably rolling in dough. But Aaron if you are still alive, let us know!

Dorothy

While we seem to be in the mood for posting lyrics/poetry/yadayadayada, I thought I'd just post one of of my own lyrics. Please critique.

Dorothy

Verse:
Dorothy sits at home, lying in her bed
Feeling all alone as she rests her head
It doesn’t seem to bother her, at least on the outside
But this I know, being alone, is a hate she hastens to hide
Voted most likely to succeed, she did beyond her wildest dreams
Leaving behind home and hearth and unwittingly her heart
Ambition soon consumed her / cut off from her family
And her friends, or vice versa / not one again she’d see
But it’s just too easy to get caught in the temporal world

Chorus:
She’s living with the most toys but she will end up dead
She may in that way win, she will still be dead
Is there something she can take with her when she gives it up?
Once there was, but now no longer, a little thing called love

Verse:
Various guys would come and go / none of which would ever stay
Taking advantage of her dough / empty promises to say
She doesn’t really seem to care / she’s got plenty to spare
She can’t begin to comprehend all the wear and tear
When you’ve got money everyone wants to be your “friend”

Chorus:
Is there something left inside her, or did it just leave?
It’s the price she had to pay for her college degree
It’s obvious – she lost her Self and thus she lost it all
And what she had, now this is sad, could have fulfilled her call

Outro:
Enter the funeral, the coroner just said
She overworked herself to death / no one shed a tear
Those that came only came for the reading of the will
She experienced a fate worse than death
The horrors of living a life without love…

Fitzroy and the Beagle

Seems like activity on the blog has slowed due to summer activities. One thing Drew and I have been working on is the legendary "Fitzroy and the Beagle" song. It's coming along, so I thought I'd post our work in progress lyrics for people to mull over and critique.
  • When does an unknown fact/Become reality?/How can a forgotten tale/Affect you and me?/One day my teacher/Her name was Anne/She told me this story/About a ship and a manAnd they were called...
  • (Chorus) Fitzroy and the Beagle/Fitzroy and the Beagle/Fitzroy and the Beagle/Fitzroy and the Beagle!
  • In and English dockyard/Our story begins/The ship was a Cherokee class/With 10 guns within/But for this voyage/4 were taken out/But even with less firepower/this ship left no room for doubt/That they were called...(chorus)
  • And now to our captain/Robert Fitzroy/He saw terrible things/As a cabin boy/One day his captain/His name was Pringly Stokes/He was depressed/So he shot himself in the throat/And they were called...(chorus)
  • Well their paths met/In 1839/They were delayed 2 months/But they got off just fine/Their mission was simple/Discover new life/ But with Charles Darwin on board/They were in for some strife/And they were called...(chorus)
(To be continued...)

Scholastic Aptitude Test

Well...SOMEONE had to post this (or maybe not, we'll never know), so here's the official blog post on the SAT. Here is the place to discuss all topics pertaining to the SAT. Don't give out TOO many spoilers, you hear.

I, for one, am glad it's over. Now my mom can stop bugging me to study 24/7 and now she can take the 15 or so SAT study prep books back to the library. Didn't study that much, but I feel like I did good.
